  3. Work the mixture into a soft dough by gradually adding a small amount of water at a time. Make sure the dough is not overly sticky or dry. If necessary, add extra water or milk powder.
  4. Form the dough into cherry-sized, compact, smooth balls.

  7. After the gulab jamuns have been cooked, take them from the oil and use a paper towel to absorb any extra oil. Put them right away in the warm sugar syrup.
